Do you have time to “lend a paw” and help make the difference in the lives of New York’s homeless hounds?

The best thing about volunteering is whether you are able to give 10 minutes a month, or 10 hours a month, everything you give either directly or indirectly impacts the life of a hound in need. There is no such thing as giving too much or too little. It’s the fact you are taking the time to give that counts. You can volunteer as much as you want. There are no minimum time requirements/commitments for ABC volunteers. Every little bit helps.   How can you help? There are lots of ways! ABCBHR volunteers:

1) Establish good relationships with local pounds, shelters, humane societies, etc and monitor them so you’re in a position to rescue any bassets the shelter cannot place. 

2) Establish relationships with local veterinarians, groomers, etc, so they can contact you when they learn of a basset hound in need of rescue, or offer discounted rates for rescued dogs that need their services. 

3) Foster a rescued basset hound until a new forever home can be found. 

4) Help transport a basset hound to their new homes, vet appointments or adoption days. 

5) Assist with fundraising, contacting businesses for donations, collecting items for our raffles, etc.  

6) Assist with different aspects of event planning. 

7) Assist at ABC events (manning tables, handing out information, selling raffle tickets); our waddle, adoption days, etc. 

8) Process new volunteer and adoption applications, do veterinary reference checks, and help with home checks.  

9) Follow up phone calls with new recently adopted bassets.  

10)  Help write and submit articles for our website and newsletter.  

11)  Help with newsletter & waddle mailings (folding, stapling etc.) 

12)  Participate on various ABC committees (volunteering, fundraising, events etc.) 
  
   You don’t have to do everything listed above, and there are many other ways you can help which aren’t listed here. These are just examples of areas we need help with. If your are interested in something that is not listed above, please let us know. We’re all ears (well, at least our hounds are)! Once you are an approved volunteer, you will be subscribed to a volunteers only e-mail discussion list where ABC discusses our daily needs and issues. It gives you a great insight into the day to day workings of rescue.
