Toby's Story,
Hi I am Camerer’s Toby Boy! My family members just call me Toby. I am a
ten month old very active male. So active that I have been in five different
homes over the past nine months. Boy that was very confusing! Right now I am
in my permanent forever home in central New York.
The new home is special. It came with a preselected family of three more
Basset Hounds. I am one of four beautiful family members. My family consists
of one female and three males. My sister and brothers range in age from
three to thirteen years. So this makes me the ‘puppy’ of the family. This is
nice because I am treated very specially.
The constant moving about between families was very hard on me. I could
never get settled into a regular routine. Just as I was adjusting to one
daily routine I was moved to a new household. Now I am happy and settled in
with my family. Jake, the youngest of my brothers, was very jealous when I
first arrived home. He just sat, starred and barked at me for several hours.
Now we are the best of buddies! Maggie, the thirteen year old, has learned
to tolerate me.
She has a special advantage place in the home where she attempts to ‘control
the herd’. If any of us act up the matriarch, Maggie, will put us back in
line very quickly. This is OK with me. I like all of the extra attention.
Maggie has also taught me a new trick. She taught me how to sit straight up
on my haunches and make special funny faces to entertain the humans in the
household.
My sister, brothers and myself are very lucky. We have a very large fenced
in backyard. We can play and sun ourselves for long periods of time when the
human adults are home. We enjoy chasing birds and after a long afternoon of
play there is time to lay quietly under the large pine tree in the corner of
the yard. I am very tired after a long busy day and like to rest at night on
a very warm waterbed. This keeps me warm on cold wintery stormy nights. |
