Shamus's
Story,
I received an urgent call from a fellow dog lover explaining the situation
poor Shamus found himself in...
Seems that Shamus was on his way to the emergency vet to be put down. He had apparently nipped and broke skin of one of his younger human family members.
He was sleeping and his younger family members had been rough housing by him
and startled him awake....being frightened like that, his instinct was to
nip....unfortunately for the child and for Shamus he broke thru the skin...
His family felt they had no choice but to put him down...until they were told
of our rescue group...thank you to a certain "angel Ardie" and the emergency
vet tech!
We were able to take in Shamus. His journey started in Buffalo, and ending in
Syracuse, where he was fostered by a wonderful family...(thank you Tom and
family!)
Poor Shamus was a bit confused, his foster family had other dogs, younger ones, who just wanted to play, but Shamus, he
needed a quiet retirement home...
We received a lot of help, from several different groups, including Second
Chance Adoption, Senior Dog Adoptions and Tri State Basset Rescue.... One day a nice lady who had rescued other animals, including cats, birds a
horse, and a St. Bernard, came to see Shamus...she wanted another Beagle Basset Hound, and understood the needs of this elderly guy....WELL, it was
love at first site, Shamus took to this lady immediately, and the lady to him....Shamus now has a large farm to live out the rest of his
days. He is happy, content and is loved.
Many special thanks to many special people....you all know who you are. Thank
you for being a part of saving this "lucky dog". And thank you to his adopter...you are the real hero here.... |
