In loving memory of Penny

Penelope was my best friend. Though I didn't know her long - only a year and a half - she profoundly changed my life. Penny arrived one day thin and hungry at our family farm, wanting to eat out of the trash. We brought her in, fed her, and tried to find her family, to no avail. And so she stayed with us. She ran and  played with the Jack Russell's and spent hours wrestling with the Doberman under a tree.
She went on trail rides with me, rode in the car, slept in my bed, played in the park, jumped up into the La-Z-Boy with me, and sang for guests at parties. She loved children, and would sit quietly for them to pet her in the park or at the pet food store. She liked to stretch out on the floor with her front legs straight out in front of her and her hind legs straight out behind her. We called it her Superman pose. She is my superhero. Penny was the purest, most joyful, most loving spirit I have ever encountered. It is my deepest privilege and honor to have known her. I miss her more than words can express.

In loving memory of Mopey

November 14, 1987 - August 7, 2003

Mopey joined our home on July 28, 1989. We got her through a family that decided they didn't want a hound. Upon our first visit to the vet, we were informed that Mopey was abused. We were shocked. Who could ever hurt such a beautiful, kind dog. After three days of her hiding and crying under the end table, we won her over.

Mopey loved to go anywhere especially if kids were there. She went fishing, boating and camping. Everybody loved Mopey Dog! I met and made more friends through Mopey.

When our son was born, Mopey thought it was great. Someone to always play with and how she loved to steal his stuffed animals!

Many of you may remember Mopey. She was crowned Queen at the 1st Annual Buffalo Basset Bash in 1999 at Ellicott Creek Park. This was just a formality because Mopey knew all along that she was a queen.

We then adopted another basset named Molly through BROWNY. At first, Mopey wasn't too thrilled but soon they became the best of friends and sisters.

Mopey was doing so well but on July 31, 2003 she stopped eating her food and by Aug. 4th she wouldn't even eat a treat. Worried and upset we set up an appointment for Aug. 7th with the vet. But by the time we got there, Mopey was so weak and could hardly walk. She had lost 10 lbs (she was only 34 lbs to start) and was having a hard time breathing. We helped Mopey over the bridge that Thursday about 11:00 am just 2 months short of her 16th birthday. It was the hardest thing we ever did but we couldn't let her suffer. We promised her the day we got her that no one would ever hurt her again and we would always take care of her.

I know she is at peace now but words cannot express how much we will miss her. God bless you Mopey. You will forever be in our hearts.

Love,

Dave, Rose, Mitchell & Molly Wielgosz

In loving memory of Maggie

March 31, 1991 – June 18, 2003
Our Maggie, Mago, Mags, Bags, Baggers, Baggit, Waggit, Beautiful Houndo girl left us after succumbing to very aggressive spleen cancer. Our grief over losing our wonderful basset is almost unspeakable. We had nearly 12 years with her and would have wished for 12 more if it were possible. She was the sweetest, most affectionate dog and was totally devoted to her one and only man. Maggie was a champion stealer of snacks and had a permanent reservation for the best spot on the couch. Any intruders to that spot were hastily evicted with barking, howling, and nose nudges. We loved going on long walks with her in our fields during which we could only see the white tip of her tail happily waggling back and forth. For her, a good smell chase was second only to a good nap. She loved playing in the snow with her man after the driveway was shoveled and would wait in the cold on the porch until he was ready for a romp. By her own doing, every day of her life was filled with joy and pleasure even her very last one. She begged for and got a juicy pork chop bone less than one hour before we helped her to sleep and ended her pain and discomfort.

Maggie, we miss you very much. Our lives will never be quite the same without you.

In Loving Memory of Emma Louise.

We lost our favorite "Girlie" Emma Louise on February 4, 2003. She was 12 years old and succumbed to a number of serious gastrointestinal problems. She was the light of our lives since 1990. She taught us what a joy it is to live with a Basset Hound, the importance of snacks and long naps on the couch. We could write a book about her funny habits and we will never be without riotous stories at family affairs. She was the best "gravy licker" ever known, especially when she was in a rush to have it before she got caught. We're sure she's in heaven right next to St. Francis and he's giving her a biscuit.

We love you Girlie. Mike, Annette & "Yolanda" Losi
