In Loving Memory of Harley, February 12, 2007

Today, 02-12-07 our little man Harley was found suddenly dead- He was five years old-almost six. Harley came to us when he was just 3 years old- we loved him with all of our heart- at times we would complain about his barking, but its funny how you miss that deep bark and howl when it is gone. We will miss him hopping around the front yard with our other dog, and when he would get so excited and run and his ears would bounce up in the air. He had a stubborn streak about him, but that’s what made him our Harley. We will miss his sweet disposition and how he just love to be around people and in the house with us, or just hanging outside with his dad working on cars with him. Today is the saddest day for us because we will never again get to see him dancing on his back legs for treats and doing ballerina twirls. He was okay and then he suddenly died peacefully in his sleep.

To our Harley- We love you buddy- you will always be our little man- Going to the dog park and taking Bos (your brother) out for rides in the truck will just never be the same--- we love you and miss you H. You were loved so much and we cant believe your gone. RIP our little Glamis Dog- we know well see you again someday!!!

In Loving Memory of Angela, December 2006

Someone precious was taken away from us way before her time. Angela was only 5 years old. She was definitely full of life. She loved to chase squirrels. She was a very loving, devoted and obedient dog. All she wanted to do was to be with her family or to be outside with the squirrels. She was a very loyal companion. She never did any harm to anybody or to any other living things. Once she found an injured bird, she brought it to us to see if we can make it feel better. She was crying while we attended to the bird. She was a very astute dog. Somehow she always knew if we were stressed or feeling sad because she would give us extra kisses.

Our children, Francesca, Dante and Quentin already miss Angela terribly. They cannot understand the fact that she will never come back. Angela was always there for them.

~Chelli and Michael Castellano

We are really going to miss her wet kisses and her wet nose.

Lord Augustus ("Auggie): August 31, 1988 - January 22, 2001

This is the reason I got involved with ABC: my buddy Auggie came to me in October of 1988 when he was 7 weeks old. I adopted him just a month after I had undergone major surgery and just 3 months after I lost my husband in an accident. He was just what the doctor ordered for me and the kids who were then 14, 13, 10 and 6. Auggie was a long-eared little ball of energy who loved running with the kids and sleeping on my bed.

As the years went by, the kids grew up and moved out, and Auggie and I grew older. We were house mates, buddies, and each other's companions. I could hear his air horn bark when I pulled in the driveway -- AROOT! AROOT! It didn't matter where I had gone or how long I was gone, he was always eagerly waiting at the door, tail going a mile a minute and jumping on me for hugs and attention.

When the grandkids were first born I worried that he might not like having babies around, since our lives had quieted down to just him and I. But that fear was dispelled when Michael came to live with us for a short while. Michael was a year old and full of spitfire. I found Auggie sleeping on the floor at the foot of the crib while Michael napped. He lifted his head to let me know he was keeping watch. It was during Michael's stay with us that Auggie learned what "people food" was. Anything Michael didn't like got shoved off the tray into the waiting snout of Auggie. When Eric came along a few years later, Auggie would sleep across the bedroom doorway. He protected Eric so fiercely that he wouldn't even let my daughter into that room to retrieve her son at the end of the work day. "Mom, will you tell Auggie it's OK?" Our lovable, floppy eared gnome was quiet the loving protector.

I had to walk Auggie to the Rainbow Bridge in January of 2001, after he had suffered a series of strokes in a week's time. He had a long, loving life with me, but it was so hard to kiss him on the head and say goodbye. My heart broke and to this day I grieve over losing him. I couldn't bring myself to get another dog, and now I've moved into an apartment where dogs aren't allowed. I would dearly love to get another basset someday, but for the moment I'll have to be content getting my basset fixes through ABC. I only wish that every dog could have the love and companionship that Auggie and I shared. I know somewhere he's wagging his tail and gleefully bellowing AROOT! AROOT!

In loving memory of Barnaby
1999? – August 20, 2005

In 2004 we said goodbye to our Ivy. We had her for 14 years and she left us with many wonderful memories. Incredibly, in 2005, we had to say goodbye to our basset boy Barnaby. We only had him for 5 years – much too short a time! We got him when he was about 2 ½ from the old Brownie Rescue group, and we knew right from the start that he was special. He was a small guy but his heart was as big as all outdoors.

Unfortunately, - his heart was the source of his problems. He had a heart murmur and we knew it would eventually take its toll, but it happened too soon. He was healthy until his last year. Then he started to have many problems. We worked with his doctor to try to restore his energy and good health and for a while he made progress. He tried so hard to get well.

In the end we knew nothing was going to make him better. The very saddest day was when we had to let him go. He was truly the sweetest dog we have ever had. His basset sister Molly misses him, but not as much as we do. His loss has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.

In loving memory of "Cooper"
July 14th, 2005 - December 14th, 2005

We decided when we moved to go to college that it was the right time to add on to our family since Kitty, our one year old basset, was lonely. You were such a great friend to her and also to us. You were such a cuddle bug, you loved to snuggle. We never saw it coming, you were so little and so young. I didn't know that you would bloat and get sick. We called every vet in town and no one would answer and the one that did wouldn't help us, it was too late at night. He told us it wasn't worth our time to try to help you. But Coop we didn't give up, we got in the car and searched for someone that would help us. You laid in my arms and I held you close, praying that you would be alright. We did what we could but it wasn't enough. You gave a good fight but it must of been time to go. My heart stopped when your little heartbeat was gone. You were gone, you laid life less in my arms. We moved back to our hometown the night you passed on, we had planned on moving in a few weeks anyways. Thank you Cooper for taking care and keeping Kitty company during the time you shared with us. We will never know why it was your time to go, maybe you were brought here to help me get through the tough times we had in those few months, maybe it was to keep Kitty company since she was lonely and homesick... all we do know is that you are in a better place and we will keep you in our hearts and carry your memories with us. We love and miss you Cooper!
