Otis,

We adopted Otis the beginning of January after our oldest dog had crossed the bridge in November.  I didn’t really want to get another dog; life was definitely easier with just one dog, and our remaining dog, a basset named Red, was enjoying her new status as an ‘only child’.  But the house just seemed too empty.  I had been watching some rescue groups, including ABC Rescue, but we were still thinking maybe we would wait until spring.
Then Tom Rodwell left a picture of Otis on my desk at work.  I was immediately smitten.
We had concerns about our other basset and how the adjustment would go.  Well, Otis’ personality is such that we did not have to worry much.  He is extremely loving, happy, and the sweetest boy!  The grumpy kitties and the Grumpy Old Red do not faze him at all!  As long as he has his belly rubbed and his Goose to play with, he is happy.  Red has warmed up to him and the cats, well, they are cats……
Otis is loved by everyone who comes to the house, and in return Otis has not met one person that he didn’t like or found a lap he didn’t think he belonged on!  Whenever he sees us (or anyone for that matter) he has to run and grab his stuffed goose in a frenzy of excitement.  He loves his walks in the fields around the house, and Red has taught him the haute cuisine of country living (Hey!  Is that cow poop fermenting over there?  Let’s eat!!)
Here is a picture we thought we would never see.  (Otis is in front). In her previous 11 years Red had never cuddled with any of our other dogs.  Otis would have none of that.  He just laid down in front of Red as though he always belonged there.  We are happy to say that he belongs here.
