Duchess's Story,

In late October of 2001, ABC was contacted about a female basset hound that animal control had picked up. Since it was near where I worked, I went down to take a look at her. Inside the puppy pen sat the most pitiful, gangly looking basset I had ever seen. I asked her name-it was Duchess. When I first met her, she looked everything but. She had a large bump on her leg, was coughing and had a huge open sore.....Her eyes haunted me. I sprung her from the shelter, and brought her home with me, my every intent being to foster her.
She came into our house...and within days was showing Jackson & I goofiness that we had never seen, and making us laugh so hard our sides hurt. 2 days after arrival, she came prancing into the living room with a loaf of italian bread in her mouth. Next victim? A large pizza. She gaves us a crash course in countercruising, and astonished us with her intelligence-we learned she knew how to sit, stay & shake. If you ask her if she wants to go for a walk, she'll go pick up the leash and bring it to you. She got along wonderfully with Bea & Arnold, and just ignored (err tripped over!) the cats! What capped the decision? When Jackson & I walked into our living room to find her flipped on her back sleeping, all 4 of her paws in the air. That is when we knew-we up and failed foster again. Thank dawG I don't get graded for this... Duchess had been in her forever home all along-ours.
