Lissie:

Lissie is a 3 to 4 year old female that came to ABC with what is believed to be one of her puppies. (Mae) She is a medium sized (49lbs) red and white She is very sweet and calm and only wants to be in your lap all the time. She would do well in a home where she got lots of special treatment, and love and cuddling. She spent her short years as a breeder and outside in a kennel with little to no human interaction. She can be timid if you raise your voice, so be sure that all training is done with positive reinforcement only. She is crate trained, and house trained. Doesn't mind a bath and gave no problems getting her nails trimmed. The house training must be reinforced for a while, as she has never been taught not to just go whenever she has to, but to go outside first. So, if in the process of the adoption, she has a slip up or two, be patient with her, and encourage her to go outside. She will settle into a routine, and it should be no problem! She does well with other dogs, cats (although she does chase occasionally) and children are her favorites! She loves just to be babied and even enjoyed being dressed up a little by our daughter in a fancy scarf. She is not spoiled or pushy, but she relishes the attention, as she has had so little positive in her life. She has learned to walk well on a leash (harness recommended) and enjoys getting outside in the fresh air.

If you can't adopt or foster right now, you can still help a homeless basset in need by being a Virtual Foster Home.
